The Rural Foods Program has been operating since 1988. Every second Tuesday of the month, volunteers at St. Philip's offer an assortment of groceries and produce to low income people in the area. Registration begins at 8:30 am. Goods are distributed from 9am to 11am. The Redwood Empire Food Bank and the Community Supplemental Food Program provide an additional box of groceries for seniors on a fixed income. And the "Betty Bag" is for families with children. Zumba Classes - YMCA/Occidental Community Center: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 9am to 10am. $5 per class.
If you want to get involved more in the community there are many opportunities.
The Occidental Community Council meets on the third Saturday at 10:30am each month at the Community Center. Come help us plan our annual fundraiser and spend the proceeds on worthy projects.
The Occidental Community Center Planning Project has posted UPDATES on the Sonoma County Parks Department website here. Public meetings are the second Tuesday of the month from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the Occidental Community Center.
The Occidental Community Choir has try-outs every year.
The OCA - Occidental Center for the Arts is a great non-profit.
The OAEC - Occidental Arts and Ecology Center - offers Volunteer Days on Wednesdays if you want to play in a beautiful garden.
And the OCSD - Occidental Community Services District - hold public meetings regarding the local water and fire departments on the third Tuesday each month.
The OEP - Occidental Emergency Preparedness team is available for Map Your Neighborhood gatherings and other resources.
